At BTS we spend a lot of time communicating the importance of building performance measurement, the technology available and what’s involved. However, in order for the measurement of building performance to be more widely adopted, we must also look more broadly at what the regulations and guidance say and how projects are typically procured and delivered.
For those procuring retrofit programmes and/or new buildings, it’s more important than ever to ensure that projects are delivering value for money and clearly evidencing the delivered performance outcomes. Why should we accept anything less?
All too often we see measurement and BPE treated as an afterthought. A nice-to-have add-on carried out on a sample of properties at the end of a project rather than a core requirement embedded from the earliest stages of scoping and procurement.
